Artist’s Notes:
Inspired by Greta Thunberg, the young Swedish environmental activist, a global symbol of the fight against climate change. Her courage and unwavering commitment to raising awareness have inspired millions to take action for the planet’s future.
In this artwork, Greta is portrayed as a selkie—a mythical creature from Celtic folklore that moves between seal and human forms—symbolizing her connection to both the natural world and human society. Emerging from beneath the water, she reaches up toward a cormorant in flight, representing her aspiration to bridge the gap between these two realms. The octopus beside her embodies intelligence and adaptability, qualities needed to navigate the complex challenges of environmental activism. The partially submerged iceberg serves as a metaphor for the hidden depths of the climate crisis, reminding us of the urgency of bringing unseen issues to light.
